Stakeholder led Integrated Water Resources Management in Mahanadi Delta, India
The overall goal of this project is strengthening institutional capacity for integrated water resources management in the Mahanadi Delta, India enabling integration of wetland ecosystem services as key components of developing food and water security and adaptation to climate change.
Project Description:
This proposal is developed as a response to the outcomes of the WPRP Seed Fund Facility and brings the existing initiatives on wetland management into their natural scale of integration, i.e. integrated water resources management that address wetland ecosystem services as components of food and water security and climate adaptation strategies and actions.
Specific project objectives
Specific project objectives:
1. Develop and communicate to river basin planning institutions and processes knowledgebase on role of wetlands in food and water security and climate change adaptation;
2. Demonstrate mechanisms for integrating holistic local values in water resources management planning and implementation;
3. Build capacity of community institutions for effective management of water resources for ecosystems and for food and water security;
4. Liaison and networking with donors and policy planners for enhanced investment into integrated water resources management.
Project Partners:
Government: State government departments of Water Resources, Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development.
NGO: the People, Pallishree, Gramm Unnayan Samity, Researchers, Sanrakhyan.
Private Sector: Bottled Water Companies (of which Bisleri Water Company is the lead) which abstract river water for production processes.
The project would provide mechanisms through which the bottled water companies could contribute to sustainable water management in the delta region.
