Project Description:
In November 2007 the Indonesian Government (c.q. Ministry of Environment) has issued a National Action Plan on Climate Change on Adaptation and Mitigation, where six target components were prioritized, including mangrove rehabilitation/planting, house retrofitting, village infrastructure rehabilitation, socialization and community awareness and development of a village management plan.
Various government departments (including forestry, agriculture, water resources, fishery etc) in Indonesia have used this plan as an umbrella references when developing its own adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Adaptation task force
While within all over Indonesia’s provinces, up to present, only the government of Nusa Tenggara Barat/NTB Province (under the Governor Decree No. 219/2007) facilitated by WWF-I, has established a special Task Force (with cross sectors memberships) that specifically dealing with adaptation issues at the provincial level. This task force was aimed at mainstreaming all climate change’s adaptation aspects into provincial developments program.
Specific objectives of the project
The specific objectives of the project are:
1. Demonstration of practical poverty reduction and livelihood development are integrated with rehabilitation in Wetlands areas and in supporting community food security and health. and
2. Recognition of the wetlands’ ecosystems functioning’s roles (using the demo sites as showcase) in district/provincial/national adaptation and mitigation policies.

Partnership at district level:
Government sector: Fishery and Forestry agencies, Public Works agency, Districts’ Planning and Development Board /Bappeda.
Universities: including Agriculture Institute / Instiper in Pemalang.and Bogor Agriculture Institute in Bogor. NGOs/CBOs : Yayasan Mitra Bahari in Pemalang and Pulau Dua nature lovers (Pecinta Alam Pesisir Pulau Dua) in Banten bay.
Private sectors: coastal cooperatives enterprises that are currently very active operating within the project areas, including the women cooperative group (Koperasi Wanita Bunga Melati), fishers’ cooperatives groups (such as Koperasi Perikanan Darat, Koperasi Cemoro Songo, Mina Mulyo and Mitra Jaya). This private sector will engage through the provision of small grants to restore coastal areas surrounding their activities and this grant can be used to leverage their business activities. This sector will also contribute to the adoption of ABP and Green belt concepts.
