Project description:

This will support the wider establishment of the Ukrainian ecological network that will underpin biodiversity conservation for years to come. Technical activities are supporting the basis for its establishment; an  indicative map and database of the wetlands along Dnipro corridor are being developed.

More specifically the project is:

-          developing the capacity of teachers, environmental NGOs and other local stakeholder groups to raise the awareness and understanding of local people and stakeholder groups on the value and need for ecological network development in the Dnipro basin;

-          developing the capacity of sectoral decision makers to use participatory, integrative approaches to biodiversity conservation and econet development;

-          developing the wetland information base that will support the development of the ecological network.

Key outputs have so far included an educational toolkit for teachers, environmental NGOs and other local stakeholders, an information and awareness creation pack for policy and decision-makers, local authorities and NGOs and an information sourcing platform for the database on wetlands in the Dnipro River Basin including preparation of an indicative map of  the Dnipro River ecological corridor.

Project is financed by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
